Color Me Raw - Holistic Eye Care!

Eyes are the most important organ of the body. It is a complex and most sensory organ of our face. An eye looks very attractive and pretty with their shape and color. Our eyes are one of the most precious organs and our vision is one of the most wonderful gifts by God to us…our eyes are the window to our soul!

Many people ignore the eyes and forget to take care of their eyes. They are spending too much time in front of computers, watching TV, etc. If you are not taking care of your eyes, problems can arise like blindness, blurred vision, and eye diseases. Not to mention, eye strain leads to headaches, fatigue, and other discomforts that keep you from feeling your best. When your vision health is at its best, you perform better in all aspects of your life.

The eyes need to be nourished properly and protected no less than the care you give to your body in the way of nutrition and exercise. Below are a few tips to help in maintaining good eye care.

• Regular consumption of nutritional fruits, dark leafy green vegetables, tomatoes and carrots are very much beneficial for improving vision of the

• eyes.

• Drinking plenty of water is very effective for healthy eyes.

• Red, itchy eyes can be treated by splashing water four times in a day, this also cure eye infection.

• Regular intake of walnuts reduces weakness of the eyes and it may prevent the dark circles under the eyes.

• Intake of vitamin A, C, E is necessary for improving eye vision.

• Grapeseed is good for the peripheral circulation in our eyes. It may also strengthen the capillaries.

• Eyebright makes a great eye home remedy. Steep it in hot water to let the herb infuse, then remove the herb and cool the remaining liquid. You could put it in the freezer to cool it down quickly if you don’t have any infused eyebright on hand in the fridge. Once it is cool, use it as an eye bath, or a compress. It’s great for sore eyes, and has an anti-inflammatory and soothing action.

• If you spend a lot of time at the computer or focusing on any one thing, you sometimes forget to blink and your eyes can get fatigued. Try the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look away about 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds. This can help reduce eyestrain.

As stated earlier, the most common solution to most eye problems is a change in the diet. However, this doesn’t always completely solve the problem at hand. In cases of vision-related problems such as short sightedness and long sightedness, etc., the most common solution maybe wearing glasses which have special lens to correct the problem or surgery.

You should consult your health care provider if you notice a change in the size of your pupil, eye pain, impaired vision, intolerance to light, or redness around your eyes.

May I (eye) remind you…your eyes are the window to the rest of your body, which makes vision health very important. Take care of your eyes, remember, you only get one pair!
